FOUNDED ORIGINALLY IN DECEMBER 1954 AS THE GEM COUNTY SHERIFF’S MOUNTED POSSE, INC.
CHANGED TO THE GEM COUNTY SHERIFF’S POSSE, INC. IN 2003 AND STILL EXIST’S TODAY.

The purpose of this Volunteer Organization of Gem County, State of Idaho
To provide Emergency Support, Assistance, Community Service, and Search and Rescue as directed by the Sheriff of Gem County, State of Idaho, or the Governor of the State of Idaho.

Made up of all volunteers, who are background checked and Sworn in by the Sheriff.   Volunteers are all certified in CPR and First Aid.   Members help assist in Emergency Search & Rescue Efforts, Traffic Control, and other activities requested by Law Enforcement Agencies thru the request from the Sheriff.
Posse Members help with Security at the Gem County Horse Races and Gem/Boise County Fair & Rodeo.  Posse Members help clean a stretch Hwy 52 twice a year, (more if needed).  Traffic control for community events, and Emergencies when they happen.  Posse Member have given thousands of combined Hours including searching, training, community service to our community with limited resources each year.  Some of the equipment used by our members includes:

Maps, GPS & Compass, Police Radio’s UHF, 4 wheelers, Horses

Most of these are owned and supplied by Members with the exception of radio’s
